Symbiotic Drift: International Exhibition on Dark Ecology

An international artist-led curatorial project on dark ecology

Symbiotic Drift presents over 30 international artists from Europe, the United States and Asia exploring the intersections of ecology, technology, memory, and material worlds across painting, video, installation, sculpture, and immersive AI projects.

Drawing on Timothy Morton’s concepts of the mesh and dark ecology, the exhibition emphasizes entanglements across biological, technological, and cultural systems. It situates artistic practice within conditions that resist separation – human from nonhuman, organic from artificial, present from future.

Set in the speculative year 2525, the project reflects on the present as already shaped by environmental upheaval, technological saturation, and fragile cultural continuities. These conditions appear as hyperobjects – vast phenomena that define daily life while exceeding individual comprehension.

Conceived as a sustained curatorial unfolding over three months, the exhibition takes place across Instagram and a dedicated website, situating viewers inside the network itself, as participants in its unfolding relations. Works engage with ecological change, bodily transformation, hybridity, and the visible marks of vulnerability and resilience. Together, they highlight the inseparability of humans, other forms of life, and material worlds.

Rather than seeking resolution, the exhibition foregrounds fragility as a form of knowledge and coexistence as a method of artistic practice.

The project acknowledges inspiration from Špela Petrič’s Confronting Vegetal Otherness: Phytoteratology, which informs its approach to entanglement.
