Yana Osman & Anton Khamchishkin | Symbiotic Drift
Yana Osman and Anton Khamchishkin form the multidisciplinary duo OSMANS , working between Moscow and Paris. Their practice centers on voice as a material. Voice in their projects is not limited to speech or sound; it appears as visual matter in video, performance, and installations, allowing voiceless objects to “speak.” By using voice as a mediator between the real and the imagined, fact and speculation, the artists fill in the unsaid and uncover stories that lie beyond official narratives.
Together, Yana and Anton defy genre boundaries, drawing on Anton’s background as a cinematographer and sound improviser and Yana’s experience of displacement and layered identities, which informs her method of “parallel narrative,” where intersecting threads reshape stories and expose what is omitted.
In 2024, the duo was nominated in Paris for the Moving Image Art Prize by four art institutions: the Centre Pompidou (France), MAMCO – Musée d’art contemporain de Genève (Switzerland), Centre for Fine Arts | Bozar Brussels (Belgium), and Kunstinstituut Melly – Rotterdam (the Netherlands). In 2025, Princeton University included their piece in its permanent collection that challenges boundaries between art, science, and philosophy. Their works were selected for Hong Kong Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, Slamdance, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin.
