Katya Bessonova | Symbiotic Drift
Katya Bessonova is an artist whose practice weaves together synthetic materials, biological matter, and metaphorical narratives of transformation. Her work addresses the emergence and cessation of life, hybrids and mutations, and the unknowable nature of the body. By merging organic and artificial forms, Bessonova investigates otherness, healing, and the human desire for immortality through aesthetically distilled sculptural languages.
Drawing inspiration from nature and biology, she transforms flora and fauna into metaphorical images that evoke both fragility and resilience. Her practice situates itself at the intersection of traditions and new technologies, creating spaces where existential threat and imaginative escape coexist.
Bessonova studied at the South Ural State University, the Russian State University of Cinematography, and is currently part of the program at ICA Moscow (2024–2026). Recent projects include Hunting and Elusiveness (Izmailovsky Park, Moscow, 2025).
