Wadim Sei | Symbiotic Drift

Wadim Sei (b. 1970, Ukraine) is an artist based in Limassol, Cyprus. His practice investigates the invisible mechanisms that shape social inequality—power, opportunity, and luck—drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of fields of inequality and Robert Sapolsky’s ideas on free will and chance. Through conceptual abstraction, Sei examines how these forces structure perception and condition social justice.
With an interdisciplinary background spanning engineering in the USSR and Germany, international business, and art residencies at the School of Visual Arts in New York and Dukley Art Center in Montenegro, he translates lived experience into sustained inquiry. His paintings—crafted by hand with airbrush—hover between digital appearance and material density, layering spontaneous and precise gestures as metaphors for the interwoven causes and effects of social phenomena.
Recent exhibitions include DreamStorming (Pop-up Gallery SYNCLERY, Limassol, 2024), Art Minsk (2020), and final exhibitions at the School of Visual Arts (New York, 2017) and Dukley Art Center (Montenegro, 2016).
