Wadim Sei | Symbiotic Drift

Wadim Sei is a Cypriot-based artist whose practice investigates the invisible mechanisms that sustain social inequality—power, opportunity, and chance. Rooted in the ancient notion of Aletheia, truth as the unveiling of what is hidden, his work seeks to make visible the forces that structure perception and condition the possibilities of justice.
Shaped by a Soviet childhood, international business experience, and the realities of forced migration, Sei’s perspective is informed by lived encounters with disparity and privilege. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of capital and Robert Sapolsky’s reflections on free will, he questions how much of human “achievement” is determined by luck and how unevenly the starting points of life are distributed.
Each painting begins as an emotionally charged digital sketch, later translated to canvas through a complex airbrushing process. Using paint-permeable fabrics as stencils, Sei embraces chance—allowing pigment to spread unpredictably, generating luminous, layered surfaces. Beneath their digital precision lies a physical and conceptual tension between control and randomness. The fluorescent hues evoke dreams, aspiration, and the spectacle of success, while the process itself mirrors the systemic interplay of order and accident that shapes social reality.
He has exhibited in DreamStorming (Pop-up Gallery SYNCLERY, Limassol, 2024), Art Minsk (2020), and presented works at the School of Visual Arts (New York, 2017) and Dukley Art Center (Montenegro, 2016).
