Roman Savchenko | Symbiotic Drift
Roman Savchenko is an artist based in Budva, Montenegro. His practice is rooted in early experiences of vulnerability and observation, which continue to inform his approach to art as a space of presence and transformation. From performance to abstraction, his work explores how forms, colors, and gestures shape perception and invite viewers into a state of in-between recognition.
Initially trained in decorative and applied arts, Savchenko turned to contemporary art after realizing he no longer wanted to produce figurative imagery. Performance and body-based practices became a way to test immediacy, interaction, and the role of the viewer, before his focus shifted toward abstraction as a field of perceptual inquiry. His current paintings and drawings investigate how attention oscillates between the familiar and the unfamiliar, revealing subtle emotional and associative responses.
Savchenko studied at the Academy of Architecture in Rostov-on-Don and the Institute of Contemporary Art Problems in Moscow. He has presented work in solo and group exhibitions at Guelman Gallery (Moscow), Wilkinson Gallery (London), Saatchi Gallery (London), and Vladey Gallery (Moscow), among others, and participated in the Montenegro European Art Community residency in 2025.
