Varvara Silanteva | Symbiotic Drift
Varvara Silanteva’s practice investigates the tension between the visible and the invisible, creating distorted, sometimes grotesque images that destabilize conventional perception. She constructs unreal spaces where time and the otherworldly intertwine, dissolving the boundaries between truth and fiction. For Silanteva, reality is not a stable given but a layered construct, shaped by both documentation and imagination.
Working across objects, video, performance, and installation, she combines traditional and experimental approaches, often positioning herself as a witness to hidden or suppressed narratives. Social questions may surface obliquely in her work, refracted through symbolism and speculative imagery.
She studied contemporary art at ICA Moscow and the Moscow School of Contemporary Art. Recent exhibitions include Humgat (Cube.Moscow, 2023), Apartment No. 17 (Winzavod CCA, 2022), and GIRLS!GIRLS!GIRLS! (VLADEY Space Gallery, 2022).
